Moodle 3.2 Update Notes

Each year in July and December, our Moodle system is updated to the latest and greatest version (actually, one version behind the official Moodle latest and greatest), and beginning July 6, we will be working in version 3.2. Below are the highlights we have identified. Stay tuned here for updates on our update!

"Joule" Branding Becomes "Moodlerooms"

"Joule" has been the term used to reference Moodlerooms' custom version of Moodle for many years now. You may have noticed the "Joule Grader" near the bottom of your course Administration block. Here are the new names and locations for the Grades and Grader tools in Moodle 3.2:

Rubric Allows for Negative Scoring

In Moodle 3.2, you can enter negative points, for example as a late submission penalty. Read more here.

Assignment Overrides

You may have processed an override for a student taking a Moodle Quiz. Now you can create an override for a Moodle Assignment, as well.

File type restrictions for Assignment submissions

Do you receive a variety of file types from students submitting their work into Moodle Assignments in your course? That can add extra work on your part to be able to open all of the various Word Docs, RTFs, PDFs, etc. your students may be uploading for Assignment submissions. Simplify your work by restricting to PDF only, or any combination of file types with which you are comfortable:

Forum Locking

With Moodle 3.2 you can lock inactive forum discussions to prevent any further replies.

There are many other updates and improvements in the new version of Moodle. If you discover something interesting we didn't cover here, feel free to share it via a comment below!
